He has been at SMU for 30 years, after receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia in 1977. He is a Licensed Psychologist in Texas who primarily does psychoeducational evaluations on a part-time basis. The tests, for children and adults, include Wechsler Intelligence tests, nationally-normed achievement tests (e.g., Woodcock-Johnson), diagnostic reading tests (Nelson-Denny), self-concept and depression scales, and measures of attention and hyperactivity.
Dr. Hampson is married and has two adult daughters.
